Khalil Muhammad

Khalil Muhammad has a diverse work experience in the fields of data science, research, and software development. Khalil is currently working as a Senior Data Scientist at Storytel since November 2022. Prior to that, they worked at Conjura as a Data Scientist, where they developed lead scoring models for e-commerce SaaS companies and provided insights from customer behavior to enhance sales operations.

Before their role at Conjura, Khalil was a Data Scientist at Hertz, where they developed a segmentation model to group customers based on rental and reservation habits, resulting in targeted customer offers and increased revenue. Khalil also developed a recommender system for add-on products that complemented rented vehicles and significantly accelerated data retrieval and transformation tasks.

In their earlier years, Khalil worked at University College Dublin as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, focusing on deep learning and federated learning techniques for recommendation systems. Khalil developed an end-to-end scalable recommender system and made significant contributions to industry projects. Prior to that, they worked as a PhD Researcher, where they explored ways to justify automated recommendations using product reviews and utilized explanations to influence the recommendation process. Khalil also worked as a Teaching Assistant and a Research Data Engineer during their time at the university.

Khalil's career also includes roles at Atlas Designery as an Engineering Lead, where they led a team in developing a flagship product for distance learning programs and managed the development and deployment of web applications for NGOs and e-commerce platforms. Khalil was also a Lead Software Engineer at Spawn Technologies, where they developed software solutions for various industries and contributed to the development of segmentation models and video recommendation systems.

Prior to that, Khalil worked as a Lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University, where they taught web development, assembly programming, and AI to undergraduate students. Khalil also provided architectural guidance and developed features for the university's student portal. Additionally, they worked as a Software Developer at Codify, where they developed line-of-business applications for major UK companies in the oil and gas industry using cloud-based solutions.

Khalil Muhammad holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Recommender Systems from University College Dublin, which they obtained between 2013 and 2018. Khalil also has a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Computing Information Engineering, which they received from Robert Gordon University in the years 2008 to 2010. Additionally, Khalil obtained a certification as a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) in Microsoft .NET Framework - Application Development Foundation from Microsoft in July 2010.
