R. Bruce Montone actively served in the Fire Service for 45 years. In every role from front line Volunteer Firefighter in a small northern community to Senior Executive and Chief Officer of some of Canada’s Largest, fire services.
Bruce served with the Province of Ontario’s oversite body within the Ministry of the Solicitor General, the Office of the Fire Marshal for almost 15 years in a variety of capacities both in the field and as a senior manager serving and advising municipalities large and small across Northern and Southern Ontario.
Bruce’s 45-year career includes senior management positions with municipalities large and small, including the Province of Ontario and their nation’s capital, the City of Ottawa immediately after the following amalgamation. He has led operations and administration functions and has led within those organizations to improve performance through effective People, Risk, Labor Relations and Financial Management. He is a certified Program Evaluator.
Bruce is the past Chairman of the Canadian Association of Fire Chief’s – Government Relations Committee. He is the past Chairman of the Transportation Emergencies, Rescue Committee of Canada. He has a long active history with emergency services in a variety of areas including officer development, employee wellness, performance improvement, program evaluation and management improvement. His Labor Relations values include the 3 C’s Communication, Consistency, & Compromise. He has the Professional designation by the Ontario Municipal Management Institute recognized as CMM III /Fire Service Executive & Suppression Professional.
He was appointed Fire Chief and Community Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Windsor in Sept. 2011. Bruce spent most of his tenure there, resolving a long list of issues including; creating a sustainable environment for significant cultural change and reorganizing the City’s Emergency Management Program and the Fire Service to ensure it was Strong, Resilient and Ready for the future.
February 2016 Chief Montone was awarded, Fire Chief of the Year by the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs and Hicks Morley.
