Deon Babiuk

Practice Lead, Project Management & Delivery Office at Strathcona County

Deon Babiuk has a wealth of experience in project management and IT leadership roles. Deon started their career at Enbridge Pipelines, where they held various positions such as Team Lead in Data Center Operations, UNIX System Administration, and VAX/VMS Systems Administration. Deon later became a Technical Project Manager and Technology Architect, overseeing infrastructure projects and upgrades.

Moving forward, Deon joined Liquor Stores, NA Ltd as the Director of the Enterprise Project Management Office, where they established a project management framework and centralized project information for the organization. Deon then transitioned to Strathcona County as a Senior IT Project Manager, managing various projects, including the migration of an electronic meeting management system and the implementation of Smart Bus and Smart Fare technology for the transit fleet.

Deon's career then led him to the Government of Alberta, where they held multiple positions. Deon served as a Senior Manager in the IT Project Management Office and Client Relationship Services, overseeing a portfolio of IT projects and improving the project intake process. Deon also worked as an Acting Director in IT Governance, Strategy, and Planning, providing oversight and guidance for various IT services. Later, they became the Director of IT Governance and Strategy in the Workforce Development Sector, where they established and built the Governance and Strategy branch from the ground up.

Most recently, Deon joined Strathcona County again as the Practice Lead in the Project Management & Delivery Office, where they currently work.

Deon Babiuk completed a degree in Computer Engineering Technology with a focus on Information Technology at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) from 1986 to 1988. In addition to their formal education, Deon has also obtained various certifications to further their professional development. These certifications include "How to Successfully Lead a PMO" from LinkedIn in May 2022, "Business Relationship Management Professional (BRMP®)" from APMG International in March 2018, a Professional Development Certificate in Project Management from MacEwan University in June 2016, and an ITIL Foundations certification from HP in June 2006.
