Data Science Manager at Stripe

Carter Lin is the current Data Science Manager at Stripe. Prior to Stripe, Carter worked at LinkedIn from October 2014 to February 2017 as a Sr. Data Scientist for Business Analytics. In this role, they were responsible for defining and building metrics and dashboards to monitor various aspects of LinkedIn's business, including registration, login, account takeover, bad content, payment fraud, scraping, help center, knowledge management, and global customer operation. Carter also conducted A/B testing for various products and machine learning models.

During their time at LinkedIn, Carter successfully caught and prevented abusers and reduced customer tickets. Carter also conducted deep dives to understand the root cause of problems and provided fast analytics responses to company top priority GCN issues. Additionally, they provided actionable insights to improve member security and operation excellence.

Carter employed SQL, Pig, Tableau, Hive, Bash, R, Python, Java, Gradle, and d3.js during their time at LinkedIn for data ETL, analysis, and visualization. Carter also built scalable, intelligent, and actionable alerts for registration, login, and logout traffic. As a pilot and power user of 3+ internal tools, they prototyped new tools for engineering team.

Throughout their career at LinkedIn, Carter led and completed 20+ projects in teamwork with 60+ engineers, analysts, managers, and director across business analytics, engineering, security, trust and safety, customer service, product, and legal teams. Carter also trained and mentored 5 analysts and interviewed and hired members in both US and Indian teams.

Carter Lin began their educational career by obtaining a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Physics & Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Carter then went on to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Applied Physics from Stanford University.

They work with Jeremy Pierre - Head of Engineering, Risk UX, Kate Zhang - Director of Engineering, Finance Engineering, and Guillaume Poncin - Head of Crypto. Carter Lin reports to David Singleton, CTO.
