Managing Director, Leveraged Finance at Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group

Adrian Clulow has over 25 years of experience in the finance industry. Adrian is currently a Managing Director at SMBC Group in the Leveraged Finance division since July 2022. Prior to this role, they served as an Executive Director at SMBC Group from September 2015 to June 2022. Clulow joined SMBC after the acquisition of the GE Capital European leveraged finance team and portfolio.

Before joining SMBC, Clulow worked at GE Capital for over 15 years. Adrian held various roles, including Executive Director of Leveraged/Acquisition Finance, where they managed GE's European Leveraged/Acquisition Finance portfolio and led a team responsible for portfolio and relationship management. Clulow also served as a Director of Corporate M&A and Business Development, where they assessed and executed M&A and business development opportunities within EMEA. Additionally, they worked as a Risk Manager for Asset Based Lending and a Risk Analyst in Global Marine & Energy.

Clulow began their career as a Graduate Trainee/Assistant Underwriter at Zurich Insurance Company Ltd and later worked as a Market Researcher & Analyst at Allianz.

Overall, Clulow has demonstrated expertise in leveraged finance, portfolio management, risk management, M&A, and business development throughout their career.

Adrian Clulow attended Arthur Mellows Academy School in Peterborough, UK from 1986 to 1993. There, they studied A-Level subjects including French, German, Mathematics, and General Studies. Adrian then pursued a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Management & German at the University of Leeds from 1993 to 1997. In addition to their academic qualifications, Adrian Clulow obtained certifications in Six Sigma Black Belt and Six Sigma Master Black Belt from GE Capital in 1999 and 2000, respectively.
