John O'Meara

Deputy Chief Of Police at Summerville Police Department

John O'Meara has extensive work experience in law enforcement. John started their career as a Patrolman at Sullivan's Island Police Department in 1998 and worked there until 2002. In 1996, they also gained experience as a Line Technician at New Charleston Aviation until 1998.

Since 2002, John has been with Summerville Police Department, where they held various positions. John served as a Patrolman, Patrol Corporal, and Patrol Sergeant before being promoted to Special Operations Division Commander, overseeing Traffic Services, Special Enforcement Team, and more. Currently, they are the Deputy Chief Of Police, appointed in April 2021. In their role, they are responsible for the Administrative Division as well as serving as the Honor Guard Commander and Field Training Manager. John also handles the Spillman CADRMS System Application Administrator and manages the police department's social media.

In addition to their work with the police department, John O'Meara served as the President of the S.C. Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #48 from May 2016 to January 2017.

John O'Meara began their education in 1998 at Trident Technical College, studying Criminal Justice/Police Science. John also attended the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy that same year and obtained a degree in Law Enforcement Officer. In terms of additional certifications, they became a Spillman Application Administrator in September 2015 through Spillman Technologies. John also received certifications in Collision Reconstruction in January 2015 and Field Training Manager in October 2008, both from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
