Steve Lees has a diverse and extensive work experience in marketing and advertising. Steve started their career at the San Diego Sockers in 1978, where they served as the Vice President of Sales & Marketing. Steve then joined the LA Clippers in 1979, initially as the Chief Marketing Officer, overseeing advertising and promotional sales, team sponsorships, and naming rights deals. Steve later took on the role of Chief Legal Officer as well. During their time at the LA Clippers, they planned and placed over $50 million in advertising across various platforms in San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles. In 1986, they became the President of Suncoast Marketing, Inc, a leading advertising agency specialized in sports marketing, event marketing, and digital and legacy media. At Suncoast, they negotiated and bought media at scale, delivering excellent value to clients. Overall, Steve Lees has demonstrated their expertise in media planning and placement, advertising, and marketing in various leadership roles throughout their career.

Steve Lees has a strong educational background, with degrees in law, business administration, and marketing. Steve attended The University of Kansas from 1969 to 1972, where they obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Marketing. Following this, from 1972 to 1974, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at The Ohio State University, focusing on Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services. Lastly, from 1975 to 1978, Steve attended the California Western School of Law, acquiring a Doctor of Law (JD) degree, specializing in Contract & Entertainment Law.
