Gillian Chen has extensive work experience in various roles. Gillian started their career as an English Second Language Teacher and Committee Head at Summerbridge Hong Kong in 2013. Gillian then worked as an Assistant Teacher and Violinist at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University from 2013 to 2015. Gillian also served as an Archive Assistant at the Office of Sponsored Research from 2014 to 2015. In 2015, they took on the role of Student Teacher at Verdun Elementary and Saint Lambert Elementary. Gillian also worked as a Camp Counselor at Langmobile Learning Center during the same year. In 2016, they worked as a Student Teacher at York Mills Collegiate Institute and as a Violin and Piano Teacher at Starland School of Music. From 2018 to 2019, they were a Design Research Team Member at the University of Toronto, where they conducted interviews and provided recommendations to improve usability. Since 2019, they have been working at Sunnybrook, starting as a UX Designer - Co-op and later transitioning to the roles of UX Designer and Project Lead, and eventually becoming a Senior UX Designer and Project Lead.
Gillian Chen holds a Master of Information degree in User Experience Design from the University of Toronto, which was completed from 2018 to 2020. Prior to that, they completed a Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education, with a minor in Economics, at McGill University from 2011 to 2016. In addition to their degrees, Gillian has obtained a Teaching Certification from the Ministère de l'Enseignement supérieur, de la Recherche, de la Science et de la Technologie in 2016 and is working towards an HL7 Fundamentals Certificate from McMaster University Continuing Education, set to be obtained in 2023.
