Gary Ackerman serves as the Associate Dean for Research and Laboratory Development at the University at Albany, SUNY, since January 2018, where responsibilities include enhancing the research portfolio of the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity. Additionally, Gary founded and directs the Center for Advanced Red Teaming, focusing on interdisciplinary research and education to support national security and emergency preparedness. With a background spanning over a decade at the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START), Gary held several leadership roles, including Director of the Special Projects Division and Acting Director of the largest terrorism research institution globally. Gary's academic credentials include a PhD in War Studies from King's College London, a Master's in International Relations from Yale University, and a BA from the University of the Witwatersrand.
