Ryan Ransom

Adjunct Instructor at SUNY Potsdam

Ryan Ransom has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Ryan started their career in 2007 as a Student Researcher in the Biology Department at St. Lawrence University, where they conducted experiments and collected data on medicinal plants. In 2010, they interned at the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe Environment Division, where they conducted water sampling and monitored water quality.

In 2010, Ryan also pursued a Master's degree in a graduate program at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. During their time there, they worked as a Graduate Student in Dr. Irwin Gelman's lab, focusing on identifying and characterizing potential metastatic suppressor genes in prostate cancer.

Ryan's work experience also includes roles at Clarkson University, where they served as an IMPETUS Coach, assisting students in an academic support program. At SUNY Potsdam, they worked as an Adjunct Instructor, teaching Mohawk language classes.

Ryan joined Massena Central School District in 2020 as a Mohawk Language Instructor and also took on the role of My Brother's Keeper Native American Program Grant Coordinator, working to improve the academic achievement of disadvantaged Native American students.

Since 2013, Ryan has been actively involved with The North Country Science & Technology Entry Program at SUNY Potsdam, initially as a Senior Education Specialist, providing academic and career counseling to students in the program. In 2022, they moved into the position of Assistant Director, where they continue to contribute to the program's success.

Overall, Ryan Ransom brings a wealth of experience in education, research, and program coordination, with a focus on STEM education, language instruction, and Native American student support.

Ryan Ransom completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology at St. Lawrence University from 2005 to 2009. Ryan then pursued further education and obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Natural Sciences-Interdisciplinary, with a focus on Cancer Biology, from the University at Buffalo from 2010 to 2012.
