Professor Of Biology at SUNY Potsdam

Walter Conley has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of biology. Walter started their career as a Biologist at the Florida Marine Research Laboratory in 1988. In this role, they supervised a Coastal Zone Management Project and maintained research data on protected species. Walter also served as the Principal Investigator of a MARFIN grant, which involved aerial surveys, necropsies, and histopathology of marine turtles. After that, Walter worked as a Professor at St. Petersburg College from 1996 to 2000, where they served as the Program Director for the Department of Natural Sciences and instructed various subjects related to biology. Walter then joined the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory as a Visiting Professor from 1998 to 2014. Walter later became a Professor at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg, from 2000 to 2015. Currently, they hold the position of Professor of Biology at SUNY Potsdam, a role they have been in since August 2000.

Walter Conley's education history starts with him earning a Bachelor's degree in Fisheries Biology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After completing their undergraduate studies, they attended Boston College High School to acquire their High School Diploma.

Subsequently, they pursued a Master's degree at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, specializing in a field of study that involved comparing herbivory and carnivory for two coastal marine copepods. Walter completed this program in 1983.

Following their Master's degree, Walter Conley enrolled at the University of South Florida, where they earned their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree. Their doctoral research focused on the population structure and trophodynamics of lanternfish larvae of the Eastern Gulf of Mexico. Walter accomplished this prestigious milestone in their education journey in 1993.
