Larry is the Edward William and Jane Marr Gutsgell Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois. He has over 38 years as an entrepreneur, faculty scientist, and university administrator dedicated to creating research-based solutions to global research problems, elevating new ideas to market, and creating new business ventures in diverse communities. In his previous role as Vice President for Research at the University of Illinois, he oversaw a nearly $1 billion research portfolio, as well as the supporting commercialization pipeline. This included the University’s technology transfer offices, research parks, incubators, venture capital, and accelerator programs.
Larry has launched two university-based startup companies and served as a member on the Governor’s Illinois Innovation Council, the Board of Governors for the Argonne National Laboratory, the Board of the Directors for the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, and previously the Board for the Illinois BIO and the BIO Governing Board. Previously he served as founding Director, UI Division of Biomedical Sciences, and the founding Theme Leader for Regenerative Biology and Tissue Engineering. Larry currently serves on the Albion College Board of Trustees.
