David Griswold

Founder & CEO at Sustainable Harvest Technologies

David Griswold has dedicated their career to sustainable coffee practices. David started at Conservation International in 1996 as the Coffee Director. While there, they coordinated the creation of the "Coffee and Conservation Principles" - which later became the basis of Starbucks' Cafe Practices Code. In 1987, they joined ASHOKA: Innovators for the Public as the Communications Director & Acting Director. It was here that they first started sharing the stories of Ashoka Fellows in the national and international media. David then went on to co-found Aztec Harvest Coffee in 1990 - a coffee importing and marketing office owned by small-scale Mexican coffee growers. In four years, they grew sales to $1 million. Aztec Harvest’s organic and fair traded coffee beans were sold to over 40 specialty coffee roasters across North America and named as a flavor of Ben and Jerry's ice cream. They were also the featured coffee on United Airlines flights between the U.S. and Mexico. In 2006, David Griswold founded Sustainable Harvest Technologies - a company that provides farmers with the resources and education they need to transition to more sustainable practices. Under their leadership, Sustainable Harvest has grown to become one of the largest sustainable coffee companies in the world, working with over 1,000 farmers in 10 countries.

David Griswold attended Occidental College and Fort Collins High School.
