Grace Lee

Scientist at Sutro Biopharma

Grace Lee has a diverse work experience spanning various research roles. Grace started their career as an Assistant Language Teacher for the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET). In this role, they planned and prepared English lessons for junior high and elementary school classes, coordinated teaching plans with Japanese teachers of English, and actively participated in extracurricular activities.

After their time with JET, Grace Lee joined LS9, Inc. as a Senior Research Associate. Here, they focused on enabling the production of novel fatty acid-derived products by introducing heterologous genes and pathways into an E. coli host and optimizing native E. coli pathways for targeted increased flux through fatty acid biosynthesis.

Next, Grace Lee joined AvidBiotics as a Senior Research Associate. In this role, they engineered, cloned, and expressed various bacteriocins for targeted killing of pathogenic microbial species. Grace also aided in the optimization of heterologous bacteriocin expression and worked on expanding the company's product profile.

Following their time at AvidBiotics, Grace Lee worked at Achaogen as a Senior Research Associate II. Grace'sresponsibilities included acting as the microbiology functional lead for a small molecule antibiotic project. Grace designed, curated, and tested clinically relevant strain panels, ran microbiological assays, and worked alongside chemists and early research scientists to develop meaningful SAR hypotheses. Additionally, they designed molecular biology and strain engineering tools and mentored an intern.

Most recently, Grace Lee has been working at Sutro Biopharma, Inc. Grace initially joined as a Senior Research Associate and later progressed to the role of Associate Scientist. Further details about their work in this role are not provided.

Grace Lee received their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley, which they attended from 1999 to 2003. In 2005 to 2006, they pursued further education at The University of Manchester, where they obtained a Master of Research (MRes) degree in Molecular Biology. Additionally, in June 2018, they earned a certification as a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
