Joan Etzell

Joan Etzell has extensive experience in the medical field, currently serving as the Vice President and Medical Director of Sutter Shared Laboratory at Sutter Health since November 2013. Previously, Joan held multiple academic positions at the University of California, San Francisco, including Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor, as well as Medical Director of the Clinical Hematology Laboratory until June 2015. Joan's leadership experience also includes serving as Medical Director at MuirLab and Hematopathologist at Contra Costa Pathology Associates from June 2012 to November 2013, along with a role as Senior Scientist at Raven Biotechnologies. Early career includes work as a Pathologist and Director of flow cytometry and image analysis at Hennepin Faculty Associates. Joan's educational background includes multiple fellowships and residencies at the University of California, San Francisco, culminating in a Doctor of Medicine degree from the same institution, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Stanford University.
