Joan Norton has extensive experience in various roles related to commercial programs, operations, strategy, and innovation. Joan is currently working as the Head of Commercial Programs and Operations at Swinburne University of Technology. Prior to this, they served as the Intrepreneur In Residence (IIR) for the Sports and Event Tech Accelerator at Startupbootcamp, where they mentored and acted as a liaison for corporate partners. Joan also worked at Cricket Australia as the Senior Commercial Strategy Manager for Media Rights and as the Strategy and Insights Manager. Additionally, Joan worked as the HYPE UQ SPIN Sportstech Accelerator Program Manager at The University of Queensland and as an Innovation Intern at Era Innovation and UniQuest. Before transitioning into the field of innovation and strategy, Joan had a successful career in veterinary medicine. Joan founded and served as the President of Norton Veterinary Consulting and Educational Resources, where they focused on promoting equine veterinary education and provided consultation services. Joan also held positions as the Executive Director of UQ VETS Equine Hospital and as a Senior Lecturer in Equine Internal Medicine at The University of Queensland. Joan began their career as the Head of Internal Medicine at Janssen Veterinary Clinic and completed their residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
Joan Norton's education history begins with their attendance at Kent School from 1996 to 1998. Joan then pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology at Worcester Polytechnic Institute from 1998 to 2002. Following this, they studied Equine at the University of Pennsylvania from 2002 to 2006, earning their VMD degree. Joan later pursued a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from The University of Queensland between 2016 and 2017. Most recently, in 2020 to 2021, they engaged in Executive Education at MIT Sloan School of Management, focusing on Strategy and Innovation.
