Ashley Hirst

Ashley Hirst has been appointed Chief Underwriting Officer Standard and member of the Corporate Solutions Executive Committee with effect from 1 July 2019.

In this role, Ashley is responsible for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions' underwriting discipline and its Standard Underwriting Division. This includes all underwriting responsibility for predominantly standard portfolios with an emphasis on non-complex risks covering both the mid-market and large corporates client segments.

Ashley joined Swiss Re in 2017 as Head of Group Underwriting Strategy. His responsibilities included recommending the target liability portfolio, steering Group-wide underwriting capacity, and assessing underwriting trends and underlying underwriting risk across all of the Swiss Re Group portfolios. Between 2012 and 2017, Ashley worked at AIG, first as Head of Science, EMEA, Americas and Global Distribution, and then as Chief Underwriting Officer & Chief Operating Officer, AIG Europe, and Global Head of Underwriter Performance Commercial Lines.

Prior to that, Ashley spent 8 years at McKinsey & Company, where he focused on strategy and distribution within the financial services industry. He began his career as Director of Strategy & Communications for a leading UK charity.
