Janet Pierson is a seasoned professional in the film industry, currently serving as Director Emeritus for Film & TV at SXSW since April 2008, a role that has evolved from Vice President and Director of Film. At SXSW, Janet Pierson is instrumental in shaping the vision, programming, and execution of the SXSW Film Conference & Festival. With over 30 years of experience, Janet has championed independent films in various capacities, including exhibitor, producer’s representative, and executive producer, often collaborating with John Pierson. Janet co-founded Grainy Pictures in 1994 and has been Co-President since, while previously holding associate positions at Islet and John Pierson @ Associates, where significant independent films were supported. Janet's early career included roles at Film Forum and the Canyon Cinema Foundation, and educational background includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film & Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute.
