Stephen Chiao

Dr. Chiao has been Sycamore’s Managing Partner in charge of technology and Asia based investments since 1999. In 2012, he took over the responsibilities from Mr. Kilin To in managing Sycamore’s Asia Star IT Fund. He was the Investment Committee member of Sycamore’s Sycamore Venture Capital and Asia Star IT Funds.

Stephen has more than ten years industrial experience with senior technical and managerial positions at Varian Associates, HP, Gould/AMI and Mosel. He has been a Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, San Jose State University, California . He is also an Honorary professor at Shanghai Science & Technology University and China Institute of Metrology; Senior advisor to the Center for Industry and Capital Research, Tsinghua University, Beijing. Stephen co-founded the Sycamore-Fudan Institute of Technology/Innovation and International Finance.

Stephen received his Ph.D. in Material Science & Engineering from Stanford University.

Successful investments include Applied BioCode, Analogic Tech., Applied Optoelectronic, Atheros, Corrigo, OSA Technologies, and Telenav in the United States and 263 Network, ACM Research, Bizlink Technology, Co-Tech Copper Foil, Marketech International, Ralink Technology, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation, Sun Technologies and Tai-Yang Computer in Asia.
