Edward Bruce

Edward Bruce is an Advanced Software Engineer at Symbotic since September 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a Senior Robotics Engineer at Westinghouse Electric Company from June 2020 to July 2022. In this role, they wrote ROS nodes in Python and C++ for controlling mobile robots and robotic arms, integrated robots into the software system, and worked with custom and off-the-shelf robots. From May 2019 to August 2019, they were a Robotics Engineering Contractor at Westinghouse Electric Company, where they interfaced sensors with ROS, worked on autonomous mapping and navigation, and designed and prototyped new mobile bases. Edward also worked as a Teaching Assistant at Carnegie Mellon University from January 2019 to May 2019, guiding students on mechatronic project selection and troubleshooting. Prior to that, they were a Bike Mechanic at BikeBeat Inc. from May 2016 to August 2018, assembling and repairing bikes and interacting with customers. Additionally, Edward gained experience as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Canon Virginia, Inc. from May 2017 to August 2017, designing a new vacuum system and troubleshooting line issues. Edward also worked as an Engineering Intern at NASA Langley Research Center from May 2015 to August 2015, conducting computational fluid dynamics research on a supersonic wind tunnel model and presenting a paper on the findings.

Edward Bruce completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Virginia from 2014 to 2018. Following this, they pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, where they studied from 2018 to 2020.
