Chantel L. Balkovetz

Chantel L. Balkovetz is executive vice president and chief operations officer of Symetra Financial Corporation and its insurance subsidiaries. She leads a combined organization comprised of customer service, operations and information technology. In this unique role that brings together Symetra’s digital and service teams, Ms. Balkovetz is responsible for customer service and operations for Symetra’s three divisions—Retirement, Benefits and Individual Life—including new business, customer service, billing and premium collection, contract administration, claims, agency services and operations risk management. She also leads enterprise and specialty technology teams along with the digital teams supporting Symetra products, service and experiences.

After joining Symetra in 2008 as director of Retirement Service and Operations, Ms. Balkovetz subsequently moved into the Individual Life Division, and was named vice president in 2011. In 2012, she became vice president, Individual Life and Retirement Service & Operations, and was promoted to senior vice president in March 2017. In 2020, she was promoted to executive vice president and chief of service and operations.

Prior to Symetra, Ms. Balkovetz held leadership operation roles at Safeco Property & Casualty and Safeco Mutual Funds.

Ms. Balkovetz received a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing from Washington State University in Pullman, Washington.
