Postdoc Scientist at Symphogen

Alexander Balhuizen, PhD has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Alexander began their career as a Lab Technician at Kemira Kemi AB in 2003 and worked there until 2006. Alexander then pursued a Research Internship at Acromed Invest AB in 2008. Following this, they joined Lund University as a PhD Student in 2009, where they focused on studying the effects of G-protein coupled receptors on rodent and human pancreatic islets. Alexander completed their PhD in 2013.

After their doctoral studies, Alexander moved on to Université libre de Bruxelles, where they worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow from 2014 to 2017. During this time, they detected novel beta cell biomarkers and led the validation of beta cell mass tracers.

In 2018, Alexander joined Københavns Universitet as a Staff Scientist and was involved in developing pre-clinical patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models for Leukemia. Their responsibilities included establishing a leukemia PDX model and expanding patient cells in vivo using immunodeficient mouse strains. Alexander worked on this translational leukemia research program until 2022.

Most recently, Alexander held the position of Postdoc Scientist at Symphogen, starting from 2023. Further details of their role at Symphogen have not been provided.

Alexander Balhuizen, PhD obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Experimental Diabetes Research from Lund University. Alexander completed this degree from 2009 to 2013. Prior to their PhD, they also acquired a Master of Science (MSc) in Molecular Biology from Lund University, which they completed from 2003 to 2007. In addition to their formal education, they hold several certifications related to their field. This includes FELASA modules 20 and 21 in Experimental Surgery, obtained from Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen in June 2020, as well as FELASA AB/D certification obtained from the same institution in May 2020. Alexander also possesses FELASA-B certification to handle laboratory animals obtained from Lund University in 2011.
