Karl Kaufmann

Karl Kaufmann is a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in the banking and regulatory sectors. Currently serving as Chief Banking & Regulatory Counsel at Synchrony Financial since 2015, Kaufmann oversees legal matters for the largest issuer of private-label credit cards in the U.S. Previously, Kaufmann held the position of Associate General Counsel at Bank of America from 2010 to 2015, and served as a Partner at Sidley Austin, where representation focused on federal regulatory and legislative interests in the retail banking sector. Earlier roles include Assistant Director of Federal Affairs at Zurich North America and Legislative Director for Congressman Bill McCollum. Kaufmann earned a J.D. cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A. in Political Science from Yale University.
