Trevor Hohls has a strong background in the agricultural industry, with a focus on plant breeding and innovation. Trevor started their career at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where they served as an associate professor and senior lecturer in quantitative genetics. During this time, they taught courses in population genetics and quantitative genetics and conducted research in corn breeding and quantitative genetics.

In 1998, Hohls joined Monsanto Company, where they held various leadership roles. Trevor served as the Africa & Asia Corn Trait Integration Lead, Africa Corn Breeding Lead, and Corn Line Development Regional Lead. In these positions, they were responsible for managing corn breeding and trait integration, driving growth and advancements in the corn portfolio, and developing new processes and systems for line development and pipeline optimization.

Hohls also served as the Global Cotton Breeding Lead, Global Corn Line Development Breeding Lead, and Global Soybean Breeding Lead at Monsanto. In these roles, they led breeding teams and developed strategies to enhance the breeding programs for cotton, corn, and soybeans on a global scale.

In 2016, Hohls joined Syngenta as the Global Breeding Technology Solutions Lead. Trevor led a global team focused on accelerating innovation in the technology pipeline, with a particular emphasis on digital agriculture. Trevor also spearheaded efforts to integrate big data and analytics into plant breeding strategies and operations.

In 2017, Hohls took on the role of Global Head of Seeds Development at Syngenta. In this position, they led a team of over 2,800 scientists working on germplasm development, trait development, breeding, data science and analytics, technology prospecting, and regulatory sciences and affairs. Their main focus was to shape the future of agriculture by leveraging cutting-edge science and technology to solve problems for farmers and drive on-farm value.

Trevor Hohls has a diverse education history. In 1987, they obtained a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with Summa cum Laude honors from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, specializing in Genetics. After completing their undergraduate studies, Trevor pursued a PhD in Quantitative Genetics and Plant Breeding from the University of KwaZulu-Natal between 1991 and 1994. Trevor then embarked on a Post Doctorate/Sabbatical program in Statistics at North Carolina State University from 1997 to 1998.

Adding to their educational accomplishments, Trevor attended the University of South Africa in the years 2000 to 2001 to complete a Program in Business Leadership. This program covered Economics, Business Administration, and People Management.
