Richard J. Yurko

VP, Secretary & General Counsel at Syntheon

Rich has represented Syntheon for over half a dozen years, first as outside counsel and most recently as its first General Counsel. Himself a cancer survivor and the beneficiary of advanced cardiac care, Rich is especially enthused about helping Syntheon bringing new life-saving devices to patients worldwide.

A graduate of Dartmouth College (A.B. Math and English, summa cum laude) and Harvard Law School (J.D., cum laude), Rich has practiced law for approximately four decades, both at large law firms and then at a boutique firm he founded.* He spent much of his career as a business litigator, but in the last decade he shifted his focus to the broader range of issues that confront business enterprises. He has been repeatedly recognized by Best Lawyers in America™ and Super Lawyers™.

Rich’s first job after law school was serving as law clerk to Miami’s own renowned federal District Court judge, the Hon. James Lawrence King. Having begun his legal career here, it is fitting that he has now returned to Miami.

Long known for his volunteer work, beginning as an editor of the Harvard Civil Rights – Civil Liberties Law Review, Rich spent over a decade on the board of directors of GLBTQ Legal Advocates and Defenders (GLAD), serving seven years as an officer including two years as President of the GLAD board. As a member of the United States Supreme Court Bar, he was in court when GLAD’s Mary Bonauto successfully argued the constitutional right for marriage equality before the high court.
