Joanna Penalva is the Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications at Syracuse Stage. Joanna has over nine years of experience in public relations and has worked with a variety of clients. Joanna started their career as an intern with Civic Morning Musicals and then went on to work as a Public Relations & Internal Communications Specialist at Welch Allyn. In this role, they were responsible for writing and distributing news releases, coordinating corporate social responsibility efforts, writing and editing the company newsletter, and supporting special event planning. Joanna also consistently monitored and updated social media outlets, prepared and edited company update presentations, acted as media liaison with local and national press, and managed communications projects for a variety of clients. In August 2010, Joanna became the Social Media Director at TheNewsHouse.com. In this role, they were responsible for managing all social media accounts for the news website. In December 2013, Joanna joined Pinckney Hugo Group as a Public Relations Account Manager. In this role, they developed, managed, and executed strategic public relations plans for agency clients. Joanna has a Bachelor's degree in Communications from Le Moyne College.

Joanna Penalva has a Master's of Science in Public Relations from Syracuse University and a Bachelor's of Arts in Communications - Public Relations and Advertising from Le Moyne College. Joanna also attended West Genesee High School.

Joanna Penalva reports to Joseph Whelan, Director of Marketing & Communications. They are on a team with Nori Gartner-Baca - Patron Campaign Specialist, Brenna Merritt - Senior Designer, Creative Content, and Jonathan Hudak - Graphic Designer.
