Dr. Pieter Steenhuis has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Dr. Pieter worked for Sysmex Europe from 2013 onwards, starting as a Research Manager in Haematology and eventually becoming the Head of Business Line Haematology in April 2018. Prior to that, they worked as a Scientist and a PhD candidate at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf from 2009 to 2013, where they conducted research on lysosomal membrane protein CLN7. Additionally, they served as a Visiting Scientist at the National Institutes of Health in 2010 and as a Staff Research Associate and Laboratory Manager at UC Davis Medical Center from 2006 to 2009. Dr. Pieter began their research career at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where they worked as a Research Associate and Laboratory Manager from 2003 to 2006. Throughout their career, Dr. Steenhuis has published peer-reviewed research articles and has co-organized international symposiums on protein trafficking.
Dr. Pieter Steenhuis pursued their higher education in the field of Biochemistry, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology from Wageningen University & Research in the years 1997 to 2000. Dr. Pieter furthered their studies at the same institution and obtained a Master's Degree in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology from 2001 to 2002. Dr. Steenhuis then enrolled at the University of Hamburg, where they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Biochemistry from 2009 to 2012.
