Cathleen Carlson is a dedicated legal professional with extensive experience in immigration law and human rights. Currently serving as a Staff Attorney at the Tahirih Justice Center since February 2023, Carlson previously held positions as an Immigration Attorney at Alex Hanna Law and Tucker, Nong & Associates. With a solid foundation in law, Carlson began a career as a law clerk at Usilaw, Inc., and gained valuable experience as a Summer Legal Intern at the Department of Homeland Security. Carlson's legal education includes a Doctor of Law (J.D.) with a focus on International Law from American University Washington College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Affairs from James Madison University. Additionally, Carlson contributed to the American University International Law Review and the AUWCL Human Rights Brief, while also providing legal support to the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.
