Karen MacMillan

Karen MacMillan has a diverse work experience in various roles within the pharmaceutical and medical research industry. Karen is currently working as an Associate Director of Medical Writing at Taiho Oncology, Inc. since September 2020. Before this, they worked as a Regulatory Medical Writer at International Consulting Group from July 2018 to September 2020.

Prior to their roles in medical writing, Karen was a Research Scientist at UT Southwestern Medical Center from May 2013 to June 2017. Karen also served as a Senior Chemist at Reata Pharmaceuticals from October 2011 to December 2012. In this role, they conducted hit-to-lead optimization for protein-misfolding target and managed all aspects of discovery-stage chemistry.

Before that, Karen held positions at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where they worked as an Instructor from July 2011 to October 2011 and as an Assistant Instructor from July 2009 to July 2011. In these roles, they developed SAR for different cancer targets and trained and supervised staff and students.

Additionally, Karen's work experience includes being a Graduate Student in Organic Chemistry at The Scripps Research Institute from August 2004 to June 2009, where they conducted research on novel DNA alkylators. Karen also worked as a Research Associate at Kosan Biosciences from July 2002 to July 2004, where they contributed to the development of cost-efficient alternatives for polyketide biosynthesis feeding studies and explored SAR of natural product analogs.

Karen MacMillan earned a B.Sc. in Chemistry and History from the University of California, Davis, from 1998 to 2002. Karen then went on to pursue their Ph.D. in Chemistry at Scripps Research from 2004 to 2009.
