Sarmad Al-Bassam has an extensive work experience spanning from 2003 to 2023. Sarmad started their career as a Research Assistant at the University of Michigan in 2003 and later pursued their doctoral studies at the University of Southern California from 2006 to 2012. During their time at USC, they developed a novel pulse-chase paradigm for visualizing the trafficking of transport vesicles in live cells. Sarmad also established a fluorescence microscopy live-cell imaging platform and optimized it for visualizing vesicle transport in immortalized cells and primary neurons.
