Laura Thomson is currently a PhD researcher at the University of Strathclyde, focusing on the development of spatial models for Scottish fisheries to assess sustainability and economic viability related to fishing ground access, supported by NERC SUPER DTP and Marine Scotland Science. Thomson's background includes roles as a fiscal analyst at the Scottish Fiscal Commission since August 2018, and experience as a statistician with the International Energy Agency and OECD from 2009 to 2018. Additionally, Thomson has held actuarial and administrative positions at Aegon and Scottish Provident, among others. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Strathclyde, an MSc in Applied Mathematical Sciences from Heriot-Watt University, and a Master of Science in Finance: Economic Policy from SOAS University of London, complemented by bachelor's degrees in Mathematics and Statistics from The Open University and Business Studies from The University of Edinburgh.
