Filipe Peliz Pinto Teixeira has extensive work experience in software engineering and management roles. Filipe Peliz is currently the Director of Software Engineering (Logistics) at takealot.com, where they are responsible for long-term strategy, architecture design, and vision for logistics engineering teams. Prior to this, they held the position of Software Engineering Manager (Logistics) at the same company, overseeing planning, integration services, and agile processes for delivery fulfillment.
Before joining takealot.com, Filipe worked at Vaticle as a Lead Software Engineer, where they managed the development workflow of the database team and facilitated requirements gathering and design processes. Filipe Peliz also served as a Core Software Engineer, working on the Grakn software stack and designing and implementing the Core API responsible for database construction.
Earlier in their career, Filipe worked as a PhD Researcher at Imperial College London, studying the effect of criticality on neuronal networks using simulated models of spiking neurons. Filipe Peliz also gained experience as a Software Engineer at ROLBAC LIMITED, contributing to the design and development of the Newsdit app and web platform.
Prior to that, they were a Software Developer at Ocado, specializing in designing automated systems for stock routing and control. Filipe Peliz also worked as a Contract Software Developer at City Software International Ltd, where they redesigned and reimplemented a financial obligor tracking system.
Filipe Peliz Pinto Teixeira obtained an IEB Senior Certificate from Verney College in 2005, with studies in English, Afrikaans, Maths, Computer Science, Science, and Business Economics. Filipe Peliz then pursued a BSC(IT) degree at the University of Johannesburg from 2006 to 2008, specializing in Computer Science, Informatics, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, and Abstract Algebra. In 2009, they completed a BSC Honours(IT) degree at the University of Johannesburg, focusing on Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Artificial Intelligence, Computational Intelligence, and Biometrics. Filipe later attended Imperial College London, where they obtained an Msc(AI) degree from 2010 to 2011, studying Robotics, Computational Neurodynamics, Multi-Agent Systems, and Machine Learning. Filipe Peliz continued their education at Imperial College London, completing a Philosophical Doctorate (PhD) in Computational Neurodynamics from 2012 to 2016.
