Islam Alaarag

Islam Alaarag has a strong background in machine learning and engineering. Islam is currently the Director of ML and ML Infrastructure at talabat, where they started in August 2023. Prior to that, they worked as an Engineering Manager at YouTube from May 2022 to June 2023. Islam also held the position of Engineering Manager at Pinterest from September 2019 to March 2022. Before that, they were a Machine Learning Tech. Lead and Manager at Quora from January 2018 to September 2019, and a Machine Learning Engineer at Quora from January 2015 to December 2017.

Islam gained experience in software and Android engineering at Trustious between October 2013 and November 2014, where they were an Android Engineer, and between February 2013 and April 2013, where they were a Backend Developer. Islam also worked as a Software Engineering Intern at Quora from June 2013 to September 2013.

Islam's journey in the field of technology started as a Software Engineering Intern at Facebook in July 2012, where they worked on the Site Integrity Team. Islam was responsible for optimizing tasks and providing internal debugging tools. Islam also worked as a Research Assistant at Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI) from March 2012 to June 2012. There, they researched machine learning and earned their Bachelor's degree with an A grade. Prior to their professional career, they were a student at the German University in Cairo from 2008 to 2013, and worked as a Junior Teaching Assistant from January 2009 to June 2011.

Islam Alaarag studied at The German University in Cairo from 2008 to 2013, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering.
