Carra Powell has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Carra began their career as a Program Coordinator at the Mississippi Forum on Children and Families, where they implemented programming and created a database of resources to connect families with community support. Carra then served as the Mississippi Grassroots Coordinator and Mississippi Outreach Coordinator at the BLACK ALLIANCE FOR EDUCATIONAL OPTIONS, where they engaged in legislative and grassroots advocacy for parental choice and charter school acts.

Carra later joined the American Federation for Children as the Tennessee Grassroots Coordinator, where they coordinated community and legislative meetings and managed private school tours.
