Shabnam Weber brings extensive experience in the tea industry, currently serving as President of the Tea and Herbal Association of Canada since June 2018. Prior roles include President of the Academy of Tea from August 2016 to 2018 and Director at the Tea Association of Canada from 2007 to 2018, where Shabnam was actively involved as Chair of the Education and Retail Committees and Co-Chair of the Conference Committee. Additionally, Shabnam was President & CEO of The Tea Emporium Inc. from 2000 to 2018. Educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Political Science from the University of Toronto - University College and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychology from The Open University.

Established in 1954, as the Canadian Tea Council with the founding countries of Sri Lanka and India, the council carried the role of promoting tea consumption to Canadians. Today, as the Tea and Herbal Association of Canada, we are a not-for-profit association representing the entire tea industry in Canada from the bush to the cup. We act on behalf of members who consist of Producing Countries, Growers, Importers, Packers, Allied Trade, Retailers and TAC TEA SOMMELIERS™/℠ to promote tea. Mission & Vision Statements: Our Mission is to be the absolute voice of the Tea Industry responsible for government relations, advocacy and providing PR & communication to consumers & industry. Our Vision is to be the leading authority and industry voice on all things tea in Canada. Four Pillars: Government Relations: Ensure industry stability by positively influencing the Federal Legislative Agenda to support the Canadian tea industry’s growth. Communication: Deliver the “Tea is a Healthy Beverage Choice” message to consumers and promote the benefits of drinking tea. Membership Services: Serve as the number one source of information and research about tea and offering a recognized certified Tea Sommelier program. Networking: Bringing together all levels of the tea industry’s supply chain to provide networking opportunities through annual conferences, government liaison and events.
