Jani Väre

Director IPR at Teleste

Jani Väre has a diverse work experience that spans several companies and roles. Jani started their career in various jobs in 1986 and worked in different roles until 2001. In 2001, they joined Nokia as a Thesis worker and later became an R&D Engineer, contributing to the development and standardization of DVB-H and IPDC over DVB-H. Jani continued to work at Nokia as a Senior R&D Engineer, focusing on research, development, and standards in broadcast technologies. During this time, they also served as Nokia's delegate in DVB-GBS and DVB TM-CBMS.

In 2007, they joined B21C as a Task Force Leader, leading the investigation of the Robustness of PSI/SI signalling in DVB. Many of the deliverables from this task force were adopted into the DVB specifications.

In 2009, they became the Chairman of the NGH Alliance, a group of industry partners who provided input to the technical work of DVB-NGH. In 2010, they served as the Project Co-ordinator for ENGINES, a Celtic project involving 33 partner companies/universities.

In 2011, they joined OMA-BCAST as the WI Champion for the BCAST 1.2 work Item, which focused on defining OMA adaptation to DVB-NGH. Jani also co-ordinated OMA-BCAST's liaison and collaboration with the DVB project.

Jani Väre joined Teleste in 2013 as the Business Manager of the Video Security & Information business. In 2015, they became the Senior Technology Manager, leading research, innovation, and standardization activities for Teleste's Video Security & Information business unit. Starting from May 2017, they took on the role of Director, IPR, heading Teleste's Innovation & IPR activities and leading their delegate role in Unife and 5G standardization work in 3GPP. Throughout their tenure at Teleste, they also coordinated various research and funding activities across different business units.

In addition to their professional roles, Jani Väre also had their own company, Mangio, where they served as the CEO and Owner. The company focused on importing Italian quality groceries, wines, beers, and spirits. Their customers included department stores, supermarkets, small shops, cafeterias, restaurants, and Alko Inc.

Jani Väre completed their Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from South Carelia Polytechic between 1995 and 1999. Jani then pursued their Master of Science (MSc) in Information Technology from Tampere University of Technology from 1999 to 2002. Continuing their education, Jani Väre obtained a Dr.Tech degree in Information Technology from the same university between 2003 and 2011.
