Michael McPhail has a diverse work experience in various research positions. Michael worked as a Senior Research Officer at Telethon Kids Institute starting in 2022. Prior to that, they served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Oxford from December 2019 to January 2022, where they focused on studying the impact of subglacial hydrological systems on ice-sheet dynamics. Before their time at Oxford, they worked as a PHD Researcher at Nestlé from July 2016 to September 2019, where they studied cereal extrusion and developed mathematical models. Michael also completed a three-month mini project with Schlumberger in April 2016, where they studied hollow gel fibre manufacture through numerical simulations and mathematical models.

Michael McPhail received their Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics from The University of Western Australia in 2015. Michael then pursued further education and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Applied Mathematics from the University of Oxford in 2019.
