Tony Smallwood

Director Of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering at Tempur Sealy International

Tony Smallwood has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Tony started their career at Armstrong World Industries in 1988 as an Industrial Engineer, where they were responsible for product standards, machine layout, and job classification. Tony then joined Norris Trim Automotive as an Industrial Engineer before moving on to Electrolux, where they served as a Manufacturing Engineer II/Plant Engineer. In this role, they were responsible for building and grounds, machine design and modification, plant layout, and process improvement teams. Tony successfully managed the development and rollout of new products.

In 1998, Tony joined Newell as an Engineering Manager, where they were in charge of all engineering functions at the Johnson City facility. Tony also assumed the responsibilities of Plant Manager during the closure of the facility and played a key role in the Shanghai manufacturing start-up.

From 2003 to 2011, Tony worked at ARAMARK, first as a Supply Chain Manager and then as a Manager, Process and Systems Engineering. At Tempur Sealy International, Tony held various roles, starting as a Global Product Engineer before being promoted to Senior Manager Global Product Engineering and, most recently, as the Director of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.

Throughout their career, Tony has demonstrated expertise in engineering, process improvement, project management, and team leadership.

Tony Smallwood received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, from 1983 to 1987. In 1993, they attended the Maynard Institute and completed a degree in MOST. Tony also obtained various certifications, including a Black Belt in Six Sigma from the Institute of Industrial Engineering in 2015 and a Green Belt in Six Sigma from IIE in 1998. Additionally, they completed a Certification in Production Inventory Management from APICS from 2000 to 2001. Tony Smallwood also attended Sullivan North High School, though specific dates and degree information are unavailable.
