Full-time · Los Angeles, US

Job description

A postdoctoral research opportunity is available at the Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation (TIBI) for outstanding candidates to apply state-of-the-art soft materials, flexible electronics, and (bio)sensors to develop novel medical devices for biomedical innovations. The TIBI is developing ‘personalized’ solutions that include functional materials as well as device and system-level innovations toward personalized diagnostics and therapeutics. To enable this vision, the institute works closely with clinicians, including interventional radiologists, ophthalmologists, cardiologists, and surgeons. Headed by Dr. Khademhosseini, the institute has numerous projects, including wearable/implantable bioelectronics that perform real-time healthcare monitoring and clinical therapeutics. You will be mentored by Dr. Yangzhi Zhu.

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in electrical/mechanical engineering or related disciplines.
• A strong record of publications in flexible electronics, biosensors, or wearable/implantable devices.
• Experience in advanced manufacturing, wireless system integration, biosensors, and flexible electronics is desired and a considerable plus.
• The fellow is expected to work in a highly interdisciplinary environment and drive scientific and technical innovation with other members of the group and the Terasaki research community.
• Outstanding communication skills are required, including oral and written presentations.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct research in the field of flexible electronics and biosensors for funded research grants (NIH, DoD, Private Foundations, and Industry Sponsored Research)
• Propose creative and novel solutions to current biomedical problems by developing hypotheses, designing experimental plans, carrying out experiments, analyzing results, and writing research papers.
• Engage in the dissemination of the research in regular group meetings, internal seminars, national/international scientific conferences, and journal publications.
• Conceive ideas for grant proposals, submit postdoctoral fellowship applications, and assist faculty in grant proposal writing (NIH, NSF, and DoD).
• Manage other researchers, including trainees, junior fellows, and visiting students in the fields of soft materials and flexible electronics.
• Engage in appropriate training of lab personnel and lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering supplies as the principal investigators require.
• Work closely with other members of TIBI to conduct and carry out the research, share research ideas, and come up with solutions for scientific/clinical problems.

Please include the following documents in ONE DOCX or PDF File:

• Research statement, including a brief summary of previous research experiences, along with motivation and specific fit for the mission of the Institute. Suggested length: 1-3 pages
• Curriculum Vitae
• Names and contact information for a minimum of three references

What We Offer:
