Our unique approach brings together researchers with expertise in various fields, including biomedical imaging, biosensing, biomechanics, engineered/synthetic biology, nano/biomaterials, artificial intelligence, and informatics. This interdisciplinary collaboration creates an environment where students can engage with cutting-edge research at the intersection of engineering and biology. Throughout the summer program, interns will have the opportunity to interact with researchers, workshops on various topics including translation and scientific writing. Students participating in the entrepreneurship track will learn about the translation process including understanding the technology platforms developed at TIBI, working on impact assessments, market research, and business strategies.
Students participating in the entrepreneurship track will learn about the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES
Developing logical and analytical thinking skills, solve problems, and acquire skills such as research, data analysis
Collaborate with scientists across multi-functional teams to support ongoing research initiatives.
Document experimental procedures and results in lab notebooks.
Understanding the technology platforms developed at TIBI
Work on impact assessments
Engage in discussions and brainstorming sessions to explore new research ideas and methodologies.
Contribute to the analysis of data and assist in preparing reports and presentations for team meetings.
Marketing research
Business strategies
Specialized Technique, Research, and Translation Seminar series
Week 1: Intro/Safety/Ethics and Conduct
Week 2: Basic Lab Skills (pipetting, pH etc)
Week 3: Basic Cell Culture
Week 4: Purification and Quantification Methods
Week 5: Microscopy and Staining
Week 6: Mechanical Testing
Week 7: Scientific Communication/PPT
Week 8: Deep Dive into Research Literature
Week 9: Innovation Module
Week 10: Idea Contest Presentation

REQUIREMENTS TO BE ELIGIBLE
Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree-granting program at a community college or university.
Prior research experience is not required.
Must have a genuine interest in pursuing science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM)

There will be two cohorts for the upcoming Summer Jr. Biomedical Intern class:
10-week Sessions
First Session: June 2, 2025 - August 11, 2025
Second Session: June 23, 2025- September 1, 2025
Three (3) Selected participants will receive a $5,000 educational stipend upon completion of the program.
