Amnon Schlegel, MD, PhD has a diverse work experience in the medical field. Amnon currently works as the Medical Director at Terns Pharmaceuticals, where they conduct clinical trials in various areas such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, obesity, and chronic myeloid leukemia. Amnon is involved in all phases of development, from designing new studies to regulatory document drafting and review.

Dr. Schlegel also has a role as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine, where they conduct research programs focused on fasting metabolism, diabetes mellitus pathogenesis, and lipid metabolism. Amnon conducted research on fasting metabolism and worked as a staff physician at San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. Amnon also completed a clinical fellowship in Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism at UCSF Medical Center, supported by an institutional training grant.

Dr. Schlegel began their career as a Resident Physician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Amnon Schlegel, MD, PhD obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Hofstra University in 1996. Amnon then went on to attend Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 1996 to 2002, where they earned both a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Molecular Pharmacology. Following their time at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, they completed their Internal Medicine Residency Program at Harvard Medical School from 2002 to 2004, where they obtained the degree of Clinical Fellow in Medicine. From 2004 to 2007, they participated in the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Clinical and Research Fellowship Program at the University of California, San Francisco. Additionally, they hold various certifications, including being a Physician and Surgeon (MD) licensed by the State of Utah in 2010, and certifications in Endocrinology Diabetes and Metabolism, Internal Medicine, and Controlled Substance Registration from the American Board of Internal Medicine, the Medical Board of California, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, respectively.
