John Ahlert

Senior Consultant, Security & Cyber Assurance at Tesserent

John Ahlert has a diverse work experience in the field of security and resilience. From 2021, they served as a Senior Security Consultant at Tesserent, providing GRC consulting services to the Australian Government and specializing in various cybersecurity frameworks and audits. Prior to that, from 2018 to 2021, they were an Associate Director at AECOM, leading the delivery of resilience integration projects and providing security resilience services across the Asia Pacific region. From 2012 to 2018, John worked at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in multiple roles, including Central Security Coordinator and Chief Information Security Officer, where they were responsible for security coordination, risk advisory, and information security management. John also has experience in the private sector, having worked as an Associate Director at Control Risks in Southeast Asia and as an Agency Security Adviser at the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade). Earlier in their career, they served as the Head of Security & Counterintelligence at the Department of Justice and as a Senior Adviser at Defence Australia's Security Intelligence Group. Overall, John Ahlert has a strong background in security and resilience, with expertise in various frameworks and regulations.

John Ahlert has an extensive education history. John obtained their Master of Arts (MA) in International Relations & Global Security from Deakin University from 2006 to 2010. Prior to that, they completed a Graduate Diploma of Fraud Investigation at La Trobe University from 2003 to 2004.

In 1999 to 2001, John pursued a Post Graduate Diploma of Psychology at Monash University. Before that, they earned a Bachelor's degree in Science from Monash University, attending from 1990 to 1996.

Additionally, John has several certifications in the field of information security and continuity. In 2022, they obtained the ISO 27001 Lead Auditor - Information Security Certification from The Knowledge Academy. In 2017, they became a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) through ISACA. In 2016, they received the Certificate of the Business Continuity Institute (CBCI) from the Business Continuity Institute (BCI). John also completed the UN Security Certification Program offered by UNDSS in 2014. Finally, in 2012, they attained the Board Certified Protection Professional (CPP) credential from ASIS International.
