Senior Principal, Geotechnical Head Of Practice, Australia And New Zealand at Tetra Tech Coffey

Andreas Giannakogiorgos has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of geotechnical engineering. Andreas began their career at GEOTECHNOLOGIKI S.A. in 1999 as a Geotechnical Engineer and was responsible for laboratory operations and quality control. Andreas then joined GeoStatiki SA in 2001 as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, where they worked until 2011. During this time, they gained valuable experience in various geotechnical projects.

In 2011, Andreas joined geo360, where they served in the private office of Geotechnical & Geological Designs. Andreas worked on studies and designs in the category 21 and 20 grades.

Following this, they joined Coffey International Ltd in 2013. Andreas started as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer and gradually progressed to the role of Principal Geotechnical Engineer. Andreas worked in Coffey until 2016.

From 2016 to 2022, Andreas joined Miyamoto International New Zealand. Andreas held various roles such as Geotechnical Engineering Manager, Technical Director - Geotechnical Engineering, and Executive Manager. In these positions, they showcased their expertise and leadership skills in geotechnical engineering projects.

Finally, in 2022, Andreas returned to Coffey as the Senior Principal, Geotechnical Head of Practice for Australia and New Zealand. In this role, they oversee the geotechnical practice for both countries.

Andreas Giannakogiorgos has a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, which they obtained in 1996. After that, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Soil Mechanics & Engineering Seismology at Imperial College London, completing it in 1997. Andreas then continued their education as a PhD candidate on Rock Mass Strength at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, starting in 2011. Andreas has also completed various additional certifications, including CMEngNZ and IntPE(NZ) from Engineering New Zealand in 2016, as well as becoming a Chartered Professional Engineer (Geotechnical) (CPEng) in November 2016. Andreas has also received training in ITASCA – FLAC 8 / FLAC3D 6 Advanced Seismic, PLAXIS Advanced Course on Computational Geotechnics, Dynamics and Seismic Analysis, and Rock Fracture Geometry Characterization and Network Modeling in 3D in various years.
