Tony Hartzel

Tony Hartzel serves as the Public Information Officer and Section Director at the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) since January 2009, overseeing a team of 10 public information officers across multiple districts. From 2013 to 2017, Tony supervised a six-person public information team in the Dallas District, leading to numerous awards for public information efforts. Prior experience includes roles as a Public Involvement Specialist at HNTB, managing communications for NTTA projects, a Policy Analyst at The Brookings Institution focusing on transportation statistics, and a writer and columnist for The Dallas Morning News. Tony Hartzel holds a Master of Arts in Urban Studies/Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies from The University of Texas at Arlington.
