Head of Content & Digital (UK) at TGI Sport

Charlie Thomson has a diverse work experience spanning over 15 years in the sports industry. Charlie began their career as a Teaching Assistant and Sports Coach at St Kevin's College Toorak in 2005. Charlie then joined the BBC as a Freelance Production Assistant in 2008, where they worked on editing VTs and covered various sporting events such as Wimbledon and the Open Championships.

In 2009, Charlie started their journey at Sky Sports, initially as a Production Assistant for Soccer Saturday, before transitioning to the role of Sports Planner at Sky Sports News. Charlie demonstrated strong planning and organization skills, conducting interviews, managing crew and reporter rotas, and booking high-profile sporting guests. Charlie later became a Senior Planner, leading the planning and delivery of cricket, golf, rugby, boxing, and tennis coverage. Charlie also took on the role of Senior Football Planner for Sky Sports News, creating and planning the daily news agenda and leading coverage for major football events like the World Cup and European Championships.

Charlie's next move was to TLA Worldwide in 2016, where they served as a Producer and eventually became the Head of Production - Creative, Content & Digital. Charlie successfully led the transformation of agency production processes and managed the planning, execution, and post-production of projects. Charlie also played a key role in the hiring process for multiple full-time staff. As an Account Director, they led digital, social, and content campaigns for major Australian sports teams, brands, and governing bodies. Charlie had account lead responsibilities for marquee clients such as Cricket Australia, Victoria Racing Club, Caltex, and Melbourne City, managing budgets and finances.

In 2020, Charlie joined TGI Sport as the Head of Content & Digital for the UK market, where they are currently responsible for overseeing content creation and digital strategies.

Throughout their career, Charlie Thomson has consistently demonstrated strong leadership, strategic planning, and project management skills in the sports media industry.

Charlie Thomson attended RGS Guildford from 1999 to 2005, where they completed their high school education. During this time, they studied History, Maths, Economics, and French, achieving A grades in History, Maths, and Economics, and an AS Level A grade in French. From 2006 to 2009, they pursued a Bachelor's Degree in History at Durham University. Subsequently, Charlie obtained a Master's Degree in Broadcast Journalism from City, University of London from 2009 to 2010.
