LB Finer has worked in a variety of roles since 1991. At J.P. Morgan Asset Management, they served as a Marketing Associate, writing custom computer applications and editing and overseeing design and production of quarterly reports and monthly fact sheets for mutual fund clients. From 1994 to 1995, they worked at the Abell Foundation Inc. as a Research Analyst and Interim Program Officer, reviewing and recommending grant proposals and monitoring ongoing grants. From 1995 to 1997, they served as a Social Science Analyst at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), conducting statistical analyses for members of the branch and in response to outside requests. From 1997 to 1998, they worked at the Guttmacher Institute as a Senior Research Associate to Vice President for Domestic Research, conducting original policy-relevant research. In 2018, they took on a wide range of programming, data engineering, research and analysis tasks as a Freelance Data Analyst, Software Engineer and Researcher. In 2019, they completed a 12-week intensive data science bootcamp at Metis, developing skills in programming, data acquisition and cleaning, and machine learning. In 2020, they founded Mavens Tools, building a complete suite of tools for online poker sites, and also began working at Thasos as Head of Data Science Services and Lead Data Scientist. In this role, they oversee accuracy of Thasos' Real Estate Intelligence tool, which uses billions of datapoints to estimate foot traffic at 800K US retail locations, and are responsible for methodological improvements to Thasos' data pipeline.
LB Finer attended Harvard University from 1987 to 1991 where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. LB then attended Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health from 1994 to 1999 where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Demography and Population Studies.
