Mariel Padilla

Mariel Padilla is a seasoned journalist currently serving as a General Assignment Reporter for The 19th since July 2020. Previously, Mariel contributed to The New York Times as a Reporting Fellow and participated in the Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism as a Post-Graduate Fellow. Mariel's early career includes impactful reporting as a Breaking News Intern for Enquirer Media, where involvement in the Pulitzer Prize-winning story "Seven Days of Heroin" was notable. Mariel also held significant editorial leadership as Editor in Chief at The Miami Quarterly and gained experience as a consultant at the Howe Center for Writing Excellence.
