WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: Care Worker

JOB PURPOSE

  • To assist the Aftercare Manager and Caseworkers in providing practical care and support to survivors, as well as coordinating activities

  • To participate in “on-call roster” as directed by Aftercare Manager

  • To assist in crisis situations as directed by Aftercare Manager

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/ KEY DUTIES 

Working with Survivors

  • Support caseworkers by accompanying survivors to appointments and other activities where survivors would benefit from A21 care staff presence.

  • Assist with outings, celebrations, and Freedom Center events as directed by the Aftercare Manager.

  • Provide support to survivors and staff as guided by the Aftercare Manager.

  • Assist Caseworkers with survivor appointments, coordination for case management meetings, and scheduling of activities.

  • Advocate for survivors when appropriate while accompanying survivors to events and appointments in the community.

  • Serve as a key part of the aftercare team by providing valued information regarding survivors and their behaviors.

  • Encourage and support each survivor to carry out their goals and care plan as created by survivors and Caseworkers.

  • Assist Caseworkers, Aftercare Manager, and Freedom Center Coordinator with the upkeep and day-to-day functioning of the Freedom Center and administrative tasks.

  • Listen carefully to information and needs discussed with survivors during interactions and make the appropriate referral and follow-up services to Caseworkers and the Aftercare Manager.

  • Record all interactions with survivors in the form of notes and submit those notes to Caseworkers and the Aftercare Manager so they can be placed into each survivor's confidential records.

  • Hold a small caseload of higher-functioning survivors and/or survivors who are no longer receiving A21 case management and who are in need of lower-level/emotional support and monthly check-ins (not case management).

  • Assist the team with all needed aftercare-related tasks and responsibilities.

  • Ensure all progress notes and paperwork for cases worked on are up to date and of high quality.

Other Duties

  • Assist all staff in day-to-day activities to alleviate the workloads of each.
  • Attend regular staff meetings as directed by the Aftercare Manager.
  • Required to have group supervision once per month (costs allocated by A21).
  • To have a good knowledge and understanding of the A21 Child Protection and Vulnerable Adults Safeguarding Policy and how it impacts the role of the Care Worker in terms of responsibility.
  • To have read, signed, and understood the A21 Child Protection and Vulnerable Adults Safeguarding Policy, Code of Conduct, and Nondisclosure Agreement and how it relates to the role of Care Worker, and ensure compliance with those standards at all times.
  • To have completed the A21 Psychological First Aid Training.
  • Complete any applicable Restore training.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS -  Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills

ESSENTIAL:

  • High school diploma, GED, or other equivalent education credential

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Minimum two years of work experience in a relevant field

  • Fluent in spoken and written English

  • Ability to communicate clearly, verbally, and in writing

  • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of integrity, maintains confidential information

  • Provide a Working with Children Check or Police Check with no infringements

  • Commitment to racial and gender justice and other equity issues.

  • Demonstrated ability to uphold, safeguard, and promote organization’s values and philosophy, particularly relating to ethics, integrity and corporate social responsibility.

  • To hold a driver's license with no pending infringements

  • Willingness to be flexible with work hours including regularly working evenings, and occasionally working weekends at times of need.

DESIRABLE:

  • Bilingual in English and another language spoken in the United States, e.g. Spanish
  • Bachelor's degree in a human services field i.e Social Work or Psychology
  • Educated in trauma-informed and recovery practices
  • Experience in facilitation of groups and/or public speaking
  • Current First Aid Certificate
