The Antara Foundation

The Antara Foundation’s mission is to support the public health system deliver solutions at scale, to improve maternal and child health outcomes, by partnering with government and communities. Treating scaled delivery as the missing technology is The Antara Foundation’s ’big bold idea’ wherein state programs become a benchmark for improving health outcomes that can be amplified nationwide. The Antara Foundation's current programs focus on Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition. The rationale to address maternal and child health goes beyond improving and saving lives. Better health outcomes for a country have a broader economic impact by contributing to poverty alleviation and economic growth. The Antara Foundation was founded by Ashok Alexander based on his experience leading the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in India where he spearhead a program (Avahan) that would stem the growing HIV epidemic in India. Experiences over a decade with the Gates Foundation helped him appreciate the complexity of public health delivery in India and drivers of scale. These crucial insights helped shape the idea of The Antara Foundation.
