Tom Yoo

Tom Yoo is a Senior Engineer at The Atlantic. Tom previously worked as a Backend Software Engineer at Revel from December 2019 to October 2020. At Revel, they worked with Python/Django and some Apollo to build API services and asynchronous tasks to handle business logic for the consumer moped ride sharing app and logistics for the operations teams. Tom transitioned the backend from piggybacking off a third-party database to becoming a fully in-house solution for moped rentals and operations.

Some of their notable achievements while at Revel include launching parking hubs, launching a verified referral system, and launching Safety Training for users. Tom also worked on a localization client using Lokalise for the Safety Training, and worked on route map caching with Mapbox using a version of the Douglas–Peucker algorithm to simplify lines. In addition, they launched the feature to capture legal agreements.

For the Operations Backend, they launched the in-house dispatch and operator app, as well as the assignment/work order flow for operators and dispatchers. Tom also launched the functionality to assign repair tasks to operators, and launched logic for battery swap operations as well as mixed repair/battery swap assignments. Additionally, they launched flags for systems that would show parking hubs, road closures, and commercial partnerships. Finally, they launched the system for tagging of bikes (i.e. blocked by repair tasks) and the system for putting vehicles into repair locations (i.e. Revel-owned repair garages).

Tom also helped with infrastructure at Revel by using Datadog to compile data visualizations so the product team could make better decisions.

Tom Yoo completed a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) at Rochester Institute of Technology, with a concentration in Computer Science and Venture Development, and a minor in Economics. They also hold certification from Lytics as a Lytics CDP Enthusiast.
